Fair Food Futures UK

Fair Food Futures UK is a significant research initiative dedicated to transforming how the UK addresses food insecurity, which currently affects one in five households with children. The project moves beyond simply providing emergency food aid to focus on understanding and supporting Community Food Organisations (CFOs)—such as food banks, community pantries, and social markets—that offer comprehensive support, including welfare advice and help with underlying issues like poverty. Through deep collaboration with researchers, local authorities, and people with lived experience, Fair Food Futures UK works to identify which models are most effective and accessible, ultimately aiming to influence policy and investment decisions by local and national governments to build a fairer, more resilient food system where emergency support is no longer needed.

FixOurFood researcher, Dr. Maria Bryant, as one of the Chief Investigators, is a key leader of the Fair Food Futures UK project, spearheading the critical research to understand which community food support models are most effective at preventing long-term food insecurity for families in areas like Bradford and Tower Hamlets.
