Soil Association
The Soil Association is the UK's leading membership charity, founded in 1946 by farmers, scientists, and nutritionists, with a core mission to transform the way we eat, farm, and care for our natural world based on the principle that the health of soil, plant, animal, and human is one and indivisible. Its work operates across three key areas: campaigning for healthy, humane, and sustainable food policies (e.g., against intensive farming and harmful pesticides); supporting farming innovation through initiatives like Innovative Farmers to transition agriculture towards nature-friendly, agroecological methods; and through Soil Association Certification, which is the UK's largest organic certifier, guaranteeing the high standards of over 70% of the organic food on sale. The charity also runs significant public health programs, such as Food for Life, to improve the quality of school and public sector meals, ultimately driving positive change towards a more regenerative and balanced future for people and the planet.
